About WBPCS Exam
West Bengal Civil Service (Executive) W.B.C.S.(Exe), is a competitive examination conducted by Public Service Commission, West Bengal, every year for recruitment to various Civil Services like- Deputy Magistrate, Deputy Collector, and Block Development Officers (B.D.O.) of the Government of West Bengal. The officers perform key administrative functions at different levels of various departments of the state. The highest position WBCS (Exe) officers can attain is that of the Departmental secretary. Three posts of district magistrate in the State of West Bengal are reserved for these officers. WBCS (Exe) officers may also be nominated at a later stage of their career to become All India Services (IAS) officers. Unequivocally, the examination is a gateway to the most prestigious services in the state.

MAINS EXAM
Only the aspirants who qualify for the Preliminary Examination would be eligible to apply for the Mains Examination. This particular examination is both objective and subjective in nature. Mains Examination is likely to be conducted in September every year (approximately). This exam consists of 6 Compulsory Papers and 2 Optional Papers. All the Papers whether Compulsory or Optional will carry 200 marks. The exam will be of 3 hrs. duration. Paper I, and Paper II will be subjective in nature. The rest of the Compulsory papers will be objective in nature. The two Papers on the Optional subjects i.e. Paper VI & Paper VII shall be subjective in nature.

PERSONALITY TEST
The candidates who qualify for the Mains Examinations are interviewed by a Panel consisting of Members who are usually Expert from different fields chosen by the PSC. The unbiased Panel assesses whether the Candidate has the personality traits essential for various Civil Services. Questions based on matters of general interest are asked in the interview. The Panel selects Candidates who possess the basic personality traits a civil servant is expected to have. Interview or personality tests for WBCS Examination are conducted for a total of 200 marks. Questions based on matters of General Interest will be asked in the Interview. A personality test assesses candidates’ personal qualities such as alertness of mind, leadership traits, power of clear and logical exposition, intellectual and moral integrity, and a candidate’s range of interests.
