Understanding Final Result
The UPSC CSE Final Result is based on cumulative performance in all three stages
Preliminary Examination (objective)
Main Examination (written & subjective)
Personality Test (interview)
The result consists of
Names & roll numbers of qualified candidates.
Ranks allotted based on total marks (out of 2025: 1750 for Mains + 275 for Interview).
This result determines which service (IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS etc.) & which cadre (state allocation) a candidate will join.
FOR SELECTED CANDIDATES
A NEW CHAPTER BEGINS
For candidates who have successfully cleared all three stages Preliminary Examination, Mains Examination & Personality Test declaration of final result is not just a personal milestone but a national one as it signals entry of new civil servants into administrative framework of country. The path ahead involves a series of formalities, training programs & eventual service allocation that must be approached with clarity & preparation.
A. Rank-Based Service & Cadre Allocation
Once final result is out Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) begins crucial task of allocating services such as IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS, etc. to successful candidates. This allocation is primarily determined by candidate rank in merit list combined with preferences filled in Detailed Application Forms (DAF-I & DAF-II), category under which they have been selected (General, OBC, SC/ST, EWS) & their eligibility based on medical criteria specific to certain services (such as physical fitness for IPS & vision requirements for IFS).
Allocation Factor | Description |
All India Rank | Determines priority in service & cadre allocation |
DAF Preferences | Candidate chosen order of services & cadre preferences submitted earlier |
Category Consideration | OBC/SC/ST/EWS/PH reservations are applied during allocation |
Medical Fitness | Mandatory medical tests may disqualify candidates for certain services despite high ranks |
